The Karnataka government of the Congress party has received a directive from the Election Commission to stop running advertisements in Telangana newspapers touting its achievements in the state’s ongoing elections. Additionally, the Election Commission has demanded an explanation for why the electoral code’s prerequisite of prior approval was not sought.
The People Act and the Model Code of Conduct were allegedly broken by the Congress, via its Karnataka government, according to a complaint the BJP filed with the Commission earlier on Tuesday.
According to the complaint, the Congress has been putting advertisements in Telangana media with the intention of influencing the November 30 assembly polls. The BRS has also brought the matter to the poll panel’s attention.
Which party has a better chance of winning the majority in the Congress at the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will also be decided in part by how straight-forward the fight between the Congress and the BJP is.
