Chapter 5: The Ape Kingdom
Overseen by Wes Ball

In Wes Ball’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, a strong new installment in the legendary series about humans and apes coexisting on Earth, Caesar plays a significant role. The franchise spans generations. If you were unable to see it in theatres, you can now enjoy it at home with a cast of new characters and an impending clash.
Despite the fact that the film’s flaws and the weight of its history overshadow its goals, there is still a lot to like. “A bit of an overlong fight with how to merge the past and this series’ future, but there’s enough here to still look ahead with bright eyes,” wrote Senior Film Editor Ross Bonaime in his review.

Planet Apes: A Royal Domain
Starting off with a shaky but promising start, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes investigates the past while constructing a new future, offering a fresh perspective on the series.
Seventeen to ten benefits
Wes Ball does a fantastic job connecting the various franchise eras.
Still among the finest examples of motion capture in cinema today are the performances.
The film’s breathtaking visuals make up for its lacklustre plot.
Downsides (
Compared to the last trilogy, this one is dull and uninteresting.

With Oz Perkins at the helm

Oz Perkins’ latest disturbing serial killer horror picture Longlegs is quietly making its way into theatres, and it features Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe on a terrifying voyage of pure evil. Keep in mind that you won’t witness anything nearly as terrifying this year, but that’s only so you know how to enjoy the show more while viewing it. It may take some time to become used to, but the end result is impressive regardless. While describing the film, Bonaime said, “it’s an uneasy, unrelenting nightmare that we can’t escape, even if it is a difficult road for a spell.”

REVIEW
A long-legged bird
It takes some time for Osgood Perkins’s unnerving tale Longlegs to get going, but once it does, it turns into a delightful nightmare.
Seventeen to ten benefits
Practically every scene is awkward due to Osgood Perkins’ directing.
Uncertainty surrounding the mystery is equally terrifying as overt horror.
Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage are among the stellar actors who brilliantly exploit tired plot devices from previous mystery movies.
Downsides (
The first two acts of Longlegs depend excessively on shocks that don’t always work, therefore the rest of the film struggles to get going.
Check out our review: 3 Arcadian
Under Benjamin Brewer’s direction
The poster for Arcadian features Jaeden Martell, Nicolas Cage, and Maxwell Jenkins standing side by side, staring directly at us. Photo sourced from Shudder.
Is the desire for additional Cage still strong? His most recent monster horror, Arcadian, is streaming on Shudder, and he plays the role of your dystopian father.
The film follows a family as they try to stay alive in the aftermath of the end of the world and the appearance of terrifying monsters; it is not solely focused on Cage’s father, though he delivers a stellar performance when it matters most. The review I published for its SXSW debut said this: “while its world has slipped into darkness, Arcadian carries the horror torch forward to become a solid monster movie.”

REVIEW
From 2024 onwards, Arcadian
Nicolas Cage’s continued greatness as an actor is on full display in the terrifying picture Arcadian, which features superbly crafted monsters.
At the end of the world, a man and his twin teenage boys battle for survival in a secluded farmhouse.
The quieter moments in Nicolas Cage’s performance serve to elevate the final scene, where he lets go, to a higher level.
Although the character interactions are brief, they provide weight to the final mayhem at the end.
Whether we’re in the dark or have a clear view of the monsters, they’re always terrifying.
Downsides (
There isn’t quite as much blood and guts in the picture.

Take Me Up to the World

No one can hear a passionate kiss from orbit. In the upcoming romance comedy Fly Me to the lunar, which stars Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, two individuals get romantically involved while they attempt to stage a lunar landing hoax. This wild notion not only works, but it also turns out to be a refreshingly entertaining new take on a genre that hasn’t exactly been trending recently. Sticking to its landing, it takes you to some unexpectedly fascinating areas. Writer Jeff Ewing praised the picture, calling it “a totally delightful, memorably novel rom-com that routinely surprises in a genre that often doesn’t, and we’re all better for it.”

Circumnavigate the Earth (2024)
Despite its ambitious and endearing rom-com tone, Fly Me to the Moon might benefit from more elaboration at key points in the plot and in the characters’ arcs.
ten benefits
A fresh, unforgettable romantic comedy is the result of Greg Berlanti’s assured directing and Rose Gilroy’s humorous, high-concept screenplay.
The supporting cast is solid, and Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum have electric chemistry as movie stars.
Effective worldbuilding immerses viewers in the Cold War era setting without overwhelming them with irrelevant information.
Downsides (
It would be helpful to refine the introduction and development of a few crucial plot pivots.
There is a lack of sufficient development and complexity in certain important character choices.

A Travelling Saint’s Chronicles
Tomás Gómez Bustillo directs Chronicles of a Wandering Saint, which stars Mónica Villa as Rita who stares at something in disbelief.Hoping for the Best
Chronicles of a Wandering Saint, this week’s top film, is just stunning. Unfortunately, we can’t spoil the delightful diversion that this joyful and magical realist piece takes. Have faith in us when we claim the journey will be worthwhile. As everything comes into stunning clarity, you will not only see one of the most breathtaking needle drops of the modern era, but you will also wish you could linger with it for a bit longer. To find the beauty that is fundamental to it, “it’s a picture that, much like life, relies on you sticking with it, warts and all,” I wrote in my gushing review.

A Travelling Saint’s Chronicles (2024)
Chronicles of a Wandering Saint, the feature debut of Tomás Gómez Bustillo, is a miraculous little film that provides one of the most lovely surprises of 2024 so far.
